We hope that everyone who attended the 2018 Newburgh Gala had a wonderful and memorable day.
Again, Newburgh Mathers School opened their gates and doors for us. Thank you to the school for providing the venue!
There were endless activities on offer for every age group: inflatables, bungee trampolines, Animates exotic animals, birds of prey from The Owl and the Pussycat, Active Inc archery, tennis, Wheelie Fun's ride on cars and the bucking bronco. Thank you to Mr Ross for again bringing along his stunning vintage tractors. The silent auction was a real success. Thank you to Glen Strachan for organising this. Thank you to Mathieson School of Dance for judging Newburgh Gala's first ever Dance Off and Ricky Reid for judging the fancy dress competition. Thank you to all the bakers who entered the newly returned 'Burgh Bake Off.
There were plenty of shopping opportunities with books, crafts, toys, sweets, gifts and cleaning products being among the goods on offer. Thank you to Trish Benton for organising the hundreds of books donated in the weeks before the gala.
It was a perfect day for the barbecue, the ice cream van, meeting friends for a cold drink in the bar or a tea or coffee in the refreshments tent. Thank you to the Corner Cafe volunteers for serving the hot drinks and all their home bakes and thank you to the Newburgh Public Hall for lending us the tables and chairs. Also thank you to the Newburgh Scouts who fetched water from the school. Thank you to Newburgh Motors for sponsoring the bar and M.N. Hamilton and Sons for sponsoring the barbecue. Thank you to Watson Family Butcher for storing the ice.
The stage was once again blessed with performances from Inverurie Concert Band and Lawrence Dance Academy. This year also saw performances from the talented students of the Mathieson Dance School. Mr Morrison's compering skills were once again second to none. We really appreciate KR Steel supplying and storing the staging and A Perfect Home constructing the stage. Also, thank you to the Newburgh Inn for supplying the PA system. For those of you who made it along promptly, you would have heard the Robert Gordon's College Pipe Band playing to start the Castle Canter.
Thank you to the Newburgh Dunes Running Club for once again organising the Castle Canter: an iconic part of the gala! Thank you to Sandra Kuszpit for organising the netball tournament and Kenny Steel for organising the football tournament.
The gala would not be possible without the generosity of local businesses donating raffle prizes and silent auction prizes. We are also extremely grateful to the Ellon Rotary for donating funds that help us pay for the marquee hire. Likewise the Newbugh SWI made a donation that helped us pay for the gala. The committee is also so happy to be supported by volunteers who give up their Saturday afternoon (and sometimes even longer!) to help set up, run the stalls and even tidy up at the end. We are always looking for more people who would like to join the committee, help out at fundraising events or simply have ideas or feedback to share. The gala continues thanks to the time and effort of everyone who gets involved and everyone who attends. Thank you!
